What does it do?

It conditions and starts the styling. It hydrates, smooths, and begins pulling the curl together before the foam goes on. Apply it to damp hair with your fingers, then layer the Lightweight Curl Foam on top.

Will it weigh down fine hair?

It will not. This cream is built for hair from fine through thick, and it contains no shea butter, no coconut oil, and no heavy conditioning agents that coat the strand. My hair is fine, 3C, and color-treated, so it was formulated and tested on hair that shows weight immediately.

Is there glycerin in it?

There is none, and that is a decision rather than an omission. By leaving it out, your hair holds its shape whether the day turns humid or dry, and it behaves the same way in Colorado as it does in Miami, and traveling in between.

Glycerin is an effective humectant and it is in most curl products for good reason. It also draws moisture from the air around it, which means it behaves differently depending on where you are. We built around a different humectant system instead, so your hair does not change when the air does.

Will the cream work on straight hair?

Used on its own, the cream works as a smoothing and shaping layer. Apply it to damp hair and then style however you normally do. It will not create curl definition, because there is no curl to define.

Is it safe on color-treated hair?

Yes. There is no added fragrance, and no sulfates, silicones, or drying alcohols, which are the things that strip and fade color.

My hair changed after pregnancy, perimenopause, or going gray.

Hormones, color, and graying all change the diameter and texture of the hair shaft, which changes how your hair responds to the products you have used for years.

This was built for 2A-3C waves and curls.

My hair is damaged from sun, salt water, and sweat.

Sun, salt, and sweat all roughen the cuticle over time. This cream conditions and holds moisture, which improves how your hair feels and looks.

I have a sensitive scalp.

There is no fragrance added, which means no perfume, no masking fragrance, and no essential oils. It also contains no sulfates, silicones, parabens, or drying alcohols.

Do I need the foam too?

If you have waves or curls, you do. These two were built to work together. The cream defines and hydrates, the foam sets and holds.

A rinse-out conditioner will not do the cream's job. It does not leave behind the ingredients that smooth the cuticle and pull the curl together, so the foam has nothing to build on and you get frizz and separation.

If your hair is straight and you are using this for frizz, the cream on its own is the right purchase.

Do I need a brush or comb?

I do not use either, but you could if you prefer. In my opinion, using your fingers gets the product onto more strands, and nothing needs shaking out afterward because it is all covered. It also helps you to not overcoat the hair with products.

Is there a method?

I use the Lux Naturally Method™ with these products, and it is the only way I style my hair. It is only three steps.

1. Cleanse and condition. Wash and condition as usual, using your fingers.
2. Rinse and apply. On damp hair, apply the cream and distribute it evenly with your hands. Then apply the foam.
3. Diffuse completely. Dry all the way, and let your shape settle without disruption.

It's easy to remember and repeat. The Method works with any products, but I designed these products with this method in mind.

LIGHTWEIGHT CURL FOAM

What does it do?

It holds and lifts. Layer it over the Hydrating Climate Cream on damp hair, then diffuse completely. It should feel lightweight, clumped and voluminous.

Why do my curls fall flat by afternoon?

Because you spend the day moving through climate or weather conditions, and most products were built with only one of them in mind.

Hair takes on water from the air around it. The strand swells and the cuticle lifts, and that is what frizz is. This foam contains no glycerin, and its hold is built to keep its shape through the day.

Is this for humidity or dry air?

Both! Products built for humidity usually fail in dry air, and products built for dry climates tend to swell in humidity. This was built for the range, because most people move through several conditions in a single day.

Will my hair behave differently when I travel?

Hair changes when you travel because most products are formulated for one condition, and you have left it.

Do I have to switch products when I travel?

No. These products are built for traveling.

These were built for the range, so the same two products work whether you are somewhere humid, somewhere dry, or moving between the two in a single day. Your own day counts as travel. Outside, air conditioning, a car, back outside again.

Can I take these on a plane?

Not in a carry-on. Both bottles are larger than the 3.4 oz limit for liquids, so they need to go in checked luggage or be decanted into travel bottles.

Altitude or hard water?

Altitude stacks low humidity, cold, and indoor heating, which is a demanding combination for holding curl. It is one of the conditions we have tested.

Hard water is more straightforward. Both products contain a chelating agent, which binds the calcium and magnesium in tap water and helps products do what they are meant to do.

Diffuse or air-dry?

I prefer diffusing because it gives you tighter definition. Air-drying works well and will give you looser waves or curls.

How do I refresh on Day 2 and 3?

Start with water, because all you might need is a light mist. You are reactivating what was set on wash day rather than restyling from scratch. This is the refresh step in the Lux Naturally Method™.

If you need more clumping, add more cream. If you need more lift, add foam, or both, and diffuse on low heat. Since we are not loading up on silicones and heavy oils, there is nothing building up, so your refresh stays just as light as the first day.

Will it leave my hair crunchy?

No. There is no drying alcohol in the formula, and drying alcohol is what causes the stiff cast most foams and mousses leave behind.

Is there protein in it?

Yes, hydrolyzed silk and hydrolyzed rice protein are both included at low levels, enough to condition without reaching the point where protein causes stiffness on fine hair.

I have a sensitive scalp.

So do I. That's why there is no fragrance added.

No perfume, no masking fragrance, no essential oils.

You do. The cream does the first half of the styling. It smooths the cuticle and starts the clumping, which is what the foam then sets.

Used over a rinse-out conditioner instead, the foam has nothing to build on and you get frizz and separation. Coarse or wiry gray strands are the first thing to show it.

Where is it made?

Both products are manufactured in the USA with globally sourced ingredients, at an FDA-registered manufacturing facility.

Vegan? Cruelty-free?

They are not vegan, because both products contain hydrolyzed silk. No animal testing is conducted on the products or their ingredients at any stage.

Why no fragrance?

There are three reasons. Fragrance is a common cause of scalp sensitivity. In a leave-in product it sits on your hair all day, near your face. And it competes with whatever you actually want to smell like.
